Welcome to the new Got The Nerve? Triathlon website!
“It’s not whether you get knocked down, it’s whether you get back up.”
-Vince Lombardi
This quote has become the words I live by. My life revolves around being active despite my diagnosis of a degenerative nerve disease when I was a 21 year old US Marine. Through my actions and lifestyle, I am determined to prove that anyone can overcome their challenges by picking themselves up and moving on after stumbling. Due to my nerve condition, my mobility has been affected over the years, and I mainly use a wheelchair and two crutches to get around. Despite the everyday obstacles I face, I am a successful business owner and founder of a non-profit organization. At Corps Fitness, my fitness facility, my instructors and I specialize in motivating class participants through one-hour plus military-style workout sessions. My non-profit, the IM ABLE Foundation, includes the Got the Nerve? Triathlon, and promotes and supports active lifestyles for disabled and able-bodied individuals. My goal, through the combination of Corps Fitness and the IM ABLE Foundation, is to change perceptions of limitations and disabilities and in the process inspire others, whether disabled or able-bodied, to look inside themselves and push forward despite their challenges.
I started Got the Nerve? with the goal of providing a chance for people of all abilities to come out and challenge themselves in a motivating and encouraging environment. Since the race’s inaugural year in 2004, I have met countless inspiring athletes who started their triathlon careers with Got the Nerve and have since gone on to competing in marathons, Olympic distance and even Ironman distance triathlons. These athletes realized what they could accomplish by taking their first step at a race that I am very proud to direct and call my own.
On race day you will see everyone from beginner to veteran triathletes, disabled athletes, and families young and old, all with the same goal…to push hard and discover what they’re capable of. Dig deep and you can accomplish anything!
