IM A PARALYMPIC HOPEFUL...
Tyler Carter 15 years old. Tyler was born with fibular hemimelia, a congenital condition that left him without a fibia bone in his right leg. As a result, the leg was amputated below the knee when he was 1, leaving him with what he jokingly refers to as “my stump”.
Despite his disability, Tyler is a competitive skier who often beats able-bodied competitors in races held throughout the Poconos. And in the world of disabled skiing, Tyler is a rising star who has his sights set on making the U.S. Disabled Ski Team and competing in the Paralympic Games, a worldwide disabled sports competition held at the same venues as the regular Olympic Games.
Perhaps because he has never known anything different, Tyler seems relatively unfazed by his disability and said his prosthetic foot has rarely been an obstacle. In fact, Tyler says his love of skiing is just one of many
positives that have resulted from his condition.
In addition to his skiing, you will find Tyler doing things a “normal” 15 year old does: biking, surfing, hanging out. He is also starting to train hard before his ski season at Corps Fitness and is making an impression on the rest of the able-bodied participants who see his courage and drive.
